Now the northern, post-industrial spaces of modern natures worry at and question the urban-rural distinction, but also the terms and tropes of the “liminal”, and the “edgeland.” Place-writing can attend to the complexity of these environs.

This special issue wagers that the environs of the present might also be generative.

We are always looking for new and exciting collaborations with community and youth projects, schools, colleges and other arts organisations. History Hive continues and builds on South Yorkshire young writers’ work initiated in 2007 through the Signposts Writing Project.

The project, founded by poet Matt Black in Sheffield in 1997 to signpost writing opportunities in the local community, went on to pioneer a wide range of young writers’ activity in the region.

The CAST writing group is a friendly group which uses writing to promote mental wellbeing. You can go even if you don’t think of yourself as ‘a writer’. Please note: events may not be running on bank holidays and over the Christmas period.

The group is run by Neil from Creative Arts Support Team (CAST) a group of mental health service users, volunteers and workers who use arts for mental health and wellbeing.

Hive South Yorkshire is funded by Arts Council England Partner Links The Writing Squad The Writing Squad is the North’s professional development programme for emerging young writers (16-21) & Co Grimm & Co is a creative writing and mentoring charity serving 7 – 18 year olds across Yorkshire.

The hub is in Rotherham town centre behind a secret door in the nation’s only ‘Apothecary to the Magical’.

Submissions might be in the form of experimental non-fiction, essays, memoirs, opinion pieces, theory work, reviews or something stranger, in the interstices between these genres.
